The project on Visotter recreational park consists in a complete remaking and upgrading of the existing park in Woerdense Verlaat, in order to be glamping park. Everything, from cabins to landscape to service buildings is being designed to have a complete new appearance for the park. The landscape is characterized by the “Nieuwkoopse Plassen”, the long stripes of water all around the park, are the result of the combination of human and nature actions. Caused by the extraction of peat for the creation of new land in the Netherlands during the course of 10 centuries, now this ponds are the perfect habitat for several animal and plant species and are a protected environment. At the same time this vast landscapes with some isolated farmhouses and windmills are the subject of the majority of the paintings from the so called “Den Haag school”. This natural, historical and artistic background was at the base of the design of the lodges and the landscape.
The lodges are very simple wooden boxes with dark metal accents, they don’t have to be too visible, in order not to interfere with the landscape, and the openings are placed with the principle to always provide a nice view from the cabin. For example, the cabins along internal canals always face the water, cabins towards the Nieuwkoopse Plassen are mainly looking outside the park, cabins in the woods are more introvert.
