The architectural challenge for this project was to create a sustainable holiday home on Terschelling that harmoniously blends into the unique dune landscape of West aan Zee and maximizes the breathtaking views. The result is a understated and intimate villa, which through its design and choice of materials, integrates with the surroundings.

The ground floor of the villa is strategically embedded in the dune, allowing the building to merge with the landscape. This floor, which includes the bedrooms, is organized around a central core with bathrooms, storage space, and a laundry room. The use of windows at dune level creates an intimate atmosphere with subtle light entering the spaces.

On the other hand, the first floor is open and light, with a sand-colored wooden facade that visually connects the house to its natural environment. This floor houses the main entrance, kitchen, dining room, and living room, all placed around the same service core. Each of these spaces enjoys unique views of the surrounding landscape. Particularly, the kitchen benefits from natural light through a large skylight, while the dining room invites indoor-outdoor living with a huge folding wall that connects the interior to the exterior. The living room provides direct access to the terrace, and all openings in the facade are designed to frame the view like living paintings.

Surrounding the villa is a carefully designed landscape with terraces at different heights, each creating its own atmosphere and enhancing the sense of privacy. This carefully considered design ensures that the villa is not just a place to stay, but an experience that seamlessly blends into the beauty of its natural surroundings.
