The design for this building for mentally disabled people is based on the same principles as the other buildings of the Eltheto complex: it’s about the quality of living. The provided healthcare is supporting this quality together with the architecture of the building. The social interaction inside the building and the interaction of the building with its surroundings play a crucial part. The building is shaped in such a way that it, on one hand, blends into the neighborhood and on the other hand has its own strong identity. The ground floor is used by more independent inhabitants. They all have their own private outdoor space that is directly connected to the main square. On the first floor, there is a more dependent group living who use the large collective outdoor spaces that they have the volume of the building. On this floor, the corridors that lead to the different apartments are designed as adventurous and interactive spaces that allow the inhabitants to discover new things while they wander around.
