On the 1st of June 2021 the recreational park Qurios Callantsoog opened its doors. The park is located in an agricultural area which is very famous for tulip fields and just one dune distant from the beach of Callantsoog. The park is designed to host all kind of guests, this means that it couldn’t be a ‘1 size fits all’ concept in order to accommodate diverse group of guests, from big families to couples or friends. The architecture of the park plays a key role in giving meaning and expression to this diversity and strongly embed the park in it’s social, cultural and natural context.
The park accommodates 112 cottages, 1 service building with reception, restaurant, shop, animation and employees areas and one workshop building. The landscape exists of different themed areas: tulip/seasonal flowers area in the northern part, water ponds and canals area in the middle part and farmland area in the southern part. The cottages are designed to easily adapt to the different areas keeping the best orientation and using in the best way the sightlines for a strong interaction from inside to outside. This creates different atmospheres and spatial experiences throughout the park.
The cabins have at the same time a traditional and contemporary appearance, due to the co-existence of wooden facades, bright coloured inserts and wide portions of glass. The buildings don’t have a fenced off private space, since the idea is that people are free to explore the park and kids can play in the sand where they want or in specific areas.
Inside the park guests find 5 different types of cottages: Adventure, Comfort, Family, Royal and Special, each one designed to fulfil different needs of different kinds of guests. There are also 3 unique lodges who’s design is more related to the themed area they stay in: Royal “colorful holland” (wider covered terrace, open view towards tulip fields, colorful interior), Family “wet feet” (building addition for children’s play, special view on the biggest pond, water related interior) and Comfort “dutch farmland” (direct access to one of the public courtyard glasshouses, cosy covered terrace, traditional dutch accents in the interior).
